What are output Devices{monitor, printers, plotters} Its types and work.

Hello friends.. in this post. Today we have going to learn that, what are the output devices? What are the types of  output devices and  they how to work ?

On above topics.. we are going to discuss deeply. So, please keep attension and Read carefully.

         Output devices
Output is nothing but processed data or information a computer. It takes the form of text, graphics, photos, audio or video .output devices are any hardware used to provide or to create output from the computer. The most widely used devices are monitor, printers, plotters and audio output devices.

                Monitors
It is most frequently used output device.the images output on a monitor are referred to as soft copy. Two important characteristics of monitors are size and clarity.a monitors size is indicated by the diagonal length of its viewing area .the comman sizes of monitors are 15,17,19 and 21 inches.
The monitors clarity is indicated by its resolution which is measured in pixels.pixels are individual dots on a monitor to indicate a monitors resolution .Capabilities several standards have involved.
1)SVGA-super vidio graphics array. it has a minimum resolution of 800 to 600 pixels.
2)XGA-extended graphics array. It has resolution upto 1024 to 768 pixels.
3)SXGA-super extended graphics array.it has resolution upto 1280 to 1024 pixels
4)UXGA-Ultra extended graphics array. it is the newest & highest standard.
The following are the types of the monitors-
     1] CRT:-
CRT means cathode ray tube. This monitors contain a cathode ray tube hardware to control an electronic beam and a power supply. CRT is consisting of glass tube conical in shape with a fosphur coating on the inside a large screen end and electronic guns at the narrow end. The fun fires a  narrow beam of electrons at the screen when the beam strikes the fosphur light is emitted.
The CRT displays also called raster display because the picture or text produced on the screen by a beam of electrons rapidly scan across the screen to form a uniform pattern a closely spaced horizontal line which covers the entire screen. In color monitor Three separate electron guns are used - Red, Green and Blue.

2]Flat pannel monitor :-
Portable monitors are known as flat pannel monitor or LCD (liquid crystal display). The technology for portable monitor involved liquid crystals .flat panel monitors are much thinner than CRT's . There are two basic types of flat pannel monitors-

1)Passive matrix:-
Passive matrix or duel scan monitors create image by scanning the entire screen this type requires very little power but the clarity of images are not sharp.

2)Active matrix:-
Active matrix or thin transistor monitors do not scan down the screen instead each pixel each indepedantly activated more colors with better clarity can be displayed.active matrix monitors are more expensive and requires more power.

                Printers
There are two comman  ways which printers can be classifind.
1)The method of printing or the method used to place the text/image on the paper.
If we classify the printers on there method of printing there are just two types of printers
•Impact printers
•Non-Impact printers
2)The speed of printers
If we classify there speed of printing then there are three types of printers.
•Line printer
•Serial printer
•Page printer

       •Impact printers-
This creates an image by pressing and linked rebun against the paper using pins or hammage to shape the images.Impact printers operates Two ways front striking and hammer striking.with front striking the character the rebun and then paper living and impression in hammer striking. The hammer strike the paper the rerun strike on the paper.
Impact printer are noisy because paper is struct ,when printing occurs this type when paper is struct, interleaved carbon on paper can be used to create multiple copies or pages.Designing and functioning of this kind of printers are easier than the of non impact printer.impact printers are noisy in operation and The wear and tear of printing head causes the periodical replacement of the print head.
Serial printers and line printers are examples of impact printers.

1]Serial printers :-
This printers print the character serially(one by one)so it is called as serial printer or character printer .Dot matrix printer is example of serial printer.

•Dot matrix printer:-
It is commonly used type of printers. The printer system is consist of paper, rebun,Cartage an print head. also mechanism of provided for inserting paper and similar other controls . This printer is available in two paper sizes that is 80 columns and 132 columns .
The print head travels back and forth on a bar from leftedge of paper to the right edge.print head contains a number of pins ,which can extend from head to strike the paper through an inked rebun .the pins in the print head form a matrix depending upon codes sent by CPU,different combinations of pins popout and strikes the paper.as a result the information is printed in form of dots .hence it is called as dot matrix printer.a print head contains 9 pins to 24 pins.if it contains 24 pins then it has a matrix of 24×24 =5096. The clarity depends upon the number of pins in the head and mode by printing .
This printers are noise and are consider as having lower print quality.the initial cost and operational cost of these printers is also less.this printers are mostly suitable for daily an bulk printing work . The speed of these printers ranges from 180 cps to 400 cps(character per second).

2]Line printer:-
Line printers are impact printers they have a high speed and able to store and a complete line of information. Drum printers and chain printers are the most commonly used line printers.

1)Drum printers:-
This uses a metal drum with rows of characters engraved on it.during printing the drum revolves moving each row of character passed each print hammer for a position in activated when the correct row of characters revolves .they do not offer interchangeble fonts.

2)Chain printers-
In this type print characters are mounted on a chain which moves horizontaly in front of the paper .the chain may contain several sets of print characters .when the required character in the chain has revolved to the selected print column, the hammer pushes the paper into the rebun and against the type sludge of the letter or digit.

   •Non impact printer:-
This printers generally used special coated papers that respond to thermal airlift electrostatics stimuli to form an image . These types of printers are very quite. This cannot create carbon copies. the printers are faster but expensive and print complete page at a time. Laser printers and inkjet printers are the examples of non impact printers.

•Laser printer:-
This printer uses laser to create an electrostatic image of a page and fuses that image to a sheet of paper. The printer has built in such a way that it interpretes data received from CPU and controls the laser. Laser printer is high complicated equipment. The laser can aim at any point on the drum which creates electrical charge. It also contains a toner, which is composed of tiny particles top oppositely charged Ink . It stiks to the drum in the places where the laser has charged.
The printer has special memory, which stores images  to be printed. the quality of Printer depends upon resolution, print quality ,paper handling features and speed .a typical speed of this printers is 4 to 12 pages per minute  the resolution is 600 to 1200  dpi (dots per inch ) This printers have very high quality of  printing and are not noisy.

•Inkjet printer:-
The printers create an image directly on the paper by spraying ink through 64 tiny nozzles .the image is of much better quality than dot matrix printer and quite comparable with quality of laser printer. The print resolution is about 360 dots per inch. the printing speed in about 4 to 6 pages per minute .the initial cost of printer is quite less but operational cost is comparitively high .the drawback of this printer is that it requires periodic maintainance.

                   Plotters
It is device that draws graphs on paper based on commands from computer. plotter differs from printers in that they draw lines using a pen .in general plotters are more expensive printers .they are used engineering applications where correctness is necessary.
A wide range of plotters are available, from relatively small and inexpensive devices that plots to 0.05 inches accuracy. There are basically two types .

•Drum plotters-
In the case of drum plotter both the paper and pen move the paper is contained on two rollers and passes over a drum .the drum can be driven in either direction thus providing relative movement of the pen with respect to paper .it is specially useful for plotting continuous line graphs.

•Flatbed plotter-
This plotter is more expensive and can produce very detailed and accurate drawings. The paper is mounted on a flatbed .the pen is mounted on a movable arm and moves perpendicular to the movement of the arm .the applications that make used of plotters include -computer added design, map drawing ,structural design.
